New Blog Coming Soon

With apologies to my loyal reader for my recent absence from blogging, I am announcing the near-future launch of a new blog/web site at this same url, much more focused on oceanography.

I've been absent for several reasons, probably foremost the fact that my computer fried itself a couple of months back and I haven't bothered to replace it yet. I'll probably do it in the near future, but in any event will have plenty of Internet access at the lab in Morehead City, where I'll be working over the summmer.

The final count on admissions was: in at Washington, UNC, Rhode Island and Duke. Turned down right away at Columbia, and belatedly (waiting list, apparently) at Scripps and Oregon State.

UNC, Washington and Duke all offered similar money. Duke was out once I decided to do coastal oceanography, though, since they don't do any, at least not physical oceanography. Washington is a larger and more famous program than UNC, but I decided I didn't really want to relocate out there, mainly because of the weather and distance to family. I think UNC's program is just as good, and what matters in grad school is your advisor anyway. I think I've found a good one. Plus, the money will go much further in Morehead City that it would have in Seattle.

So Wednesday I'm relocating to Morehead City for the summer to do research. In the fall I'll relocate again, to Chapel Hill, where I'll be for one year, or maybe two, taking classes. Then it's back out to Morehead City for a few years for dissertation research.
